Guity cabbie's cancer plea
Seriously ill, yet driving a cab?
Cancer-stricken cabby's story is cause for concern

Letter from LEOW ENG LYE
I am surprised and very concerned at the report "Guilty cabbie's cancer plea" (Dec 4).
The cabby, Mr Lee Yuet Kong, was reported to be 68 years old.
He looks frail and is suffering from a host of serious medical conditions including nose cancer, diabetes, chronic heart problems. He is also waiting for open-heart surgery.
I am surprised that a person in such poor health is still driving a taxi.
I understand that beyond the age of 62, drivers need to undergo a yearly medical check-up and renewal of driving licence is subject to them being given a clean bill of health.
For taxi drivers, I would expect the medical check-up to be more stringent, as allowing a person with multiple medical conditions to drive would be putting the lives of other road users in danger.
Can the Traffic Police and his taxi company comment?
