cab Insensitive cabby sanitises taxi after my sick mum gets off

Niko felt insulted by a cabby who sanitised the cab immediately after she and her sick mum got off. Her mum had finished her dialysis treatment and was not feeling well. The cabby's actions left Niko questioning his sensitivity towards passengers.

Says the STOMPer:

"I would like to comment on the bad attitude of a cabby I faced yesterday.

"We took this cab, SHB2458U (Citycab) from Yishun to Ang Mo Kio after my mum's dialysis and she was not feeling well.

"The moment we alighted the cab, the cabby started spraying sanitiser to 'detoxify' the car while we were still standing outside the cab.

"I tried taking down his cab number, and he even asked me if I wanted his name.

"Is it that toxic that he must behave in this way?

"I felt so humiliated and sad to know such people exist in our society.

"I have called to complain against this cabby and demand a face to face apology from him to my mum.

"Yes, I do understand the hardship cabbies have to undergo but that is surely not the correct attitude we should get from them.

"Hereby hope that the media can help send a clear message to all cabbies that they should not behave that way to those who are sick."

mobilestomper, I think you are the who is ignorant. All sick people
looked the same, how the hell you expect the driver to differentiate
whether she go for dialysis or she was sick due to some virus. So

Sounds wrong.

Whether the cabby sanitised because he wanted to take an effort to
keep his cab clean or to humiliate u, there was certainly no need to
humiliate him via Stomp...

"The moment we alighted the cab, the cabby started spraying sanitiser
to 'detoxify' the car while we were still standing outside the cab"
As you mentioned, he waited for you to alight b4 he spray... and i'm
sure all drivers will agree with me that most of us would do whatever
we need/want/have to do (In this case sanitising his cab) b4 we drive
off... You dun expect him to spray and drive at the same time right?
Later his can of sanitiser kana confiscated by Traffic Police how?...

Jayson619 said on 30 Jan, 2009

sarahfish said on 30 Jan, 2009
I think you are too sensitive afterall he did pick u, he is just
sanitising the cab, when you visit the doc or GP, don't some of them
wash their hands immediately after examining you? being a layman the
cabby can't be sure what your mum is sick with so i think there are
really no issue here.

one_kapo said on 30 Jan, 2009

up your idea here via comments here.

Ahmui123 said on 29 Jan, 2009
Nikko I fully understand how you feel. However do not be angry with
uncle cabby. He is merely trying to clean the air for the benefit of
his next passenger. The cab is his only means of earning a decent
living to support his family. Ask yourself would you like to ride in a
cab after a sick (during sars) pax alights?? Have a heart for the poor
cabby. You make a complaint to the cab company and demand a face to
face apology?! My god why should a uncle cabby apologize just to keep
his cab clean?!! I can't believe it!! sigh....

fnbdasia said on 29 Jan, 2009
if apologies are needed, it is from this stomper to the cab driver who
was trying to protect himself and his next passengers. so, if we see
people using tissue paper to wipe tables that had been cleaned at
coffee shops, then apologies are needed coz' the old uncle spent
efforts cleaning the tables?
if u wipe the chopsticks before using ; even after it has been washed
apologies are also needed?
sometimes i wonder why there are such people here?

deldel999 said on 29 Jan, 2009

thought about other people, putting up even their lisence plate number
up and destroying their rice bowl?

You are the inconsiderate one I think.

honeypunk said on 29 Jan, 2009
So for goodness sake, I do not see anything here being offensive or
whatsoever that you need a FACE-to-FACE apology. You already left the
cab, nobody was expecting YOU to look back in.

honeypunk said on 29 Jan, 2009
I do not see this as being an insensitive act at all. In fact, it was
a very sensitive act for the benefit of the next passenger and
himself.

There is nothing like a cab driver who can take some effort to keep
his cab clean and hygienic. You cannot expect him to drive off to
somewhere, then stop to sanitize because obviously he would not know
when he will be picking up new passengers.

singapore is going down the drain, everything so PC and everything so
sensitive plus everything ppl do you think is against you (well sg ppl

Hello there. Citycab is yellow colour but your picture shows a blue
Comfort cab. Which is which. Whatever it is, this driver could be more
sensitive not to do it in your presence. If it is Comfort taxi, wonder
why this company is always getting all the negative publicity. High
time the management train all their drivers on basic social etiquette

he could have done it out of habit to keep the air in his cab 'fresh',
in which case i think it's commendable. he might be asthmatic and do
it for his health reasons each time a passenger alights. he might have
a spirit-of-awareness and responsibility & thus do so to keep his car
free from germs.

there's alot of reasons, honestly u dun have to take things so
personally. i dun think it's right to demand an apology without
understanding where he's coming from. besides if u're not overly aware
in a negative way, u wouldn't see it so negatively either.
