Sign of recession? Every cent count

Yesterday evening, I fetched a Caucasian from town area and heading to Upper Thomson.

On arrival, the fares were $13.95. He gave me $14.00. I thought he would say keep the change. Instead he palm was open and waiting for me to give him the change of 5 cents. I found a 5-cent coin in my coin box and return the change.

His house is a semi-detach house and a BMW parked in the drive-way.

Today, a young lady boarded my cab from CGH going to Tanah Merah. The fares were $9.95. Again, she is also waiting for me to return the 5 cents change.

A Caucasian and his Asian girl friend also wanted to get his 5 cents change at the end of the trip at the Criket Club. His girl frien told him to forget about it as I was searching for another 5-cent coin.

I normally just round down the fares to the nearest dollar if the fare is $9.10, $12.15 or $15.20. These amounts added to about $1 or $2 per day. So I find it amusing that passengers are waiting for a change of 5 cents.

I fetch an Isreal tourist to FE Plaza. He gave me $10 for the fare of $8.40. This really make my day.
